A Ray Of Hope

I had kept my mouth shut entire ride to the university. I wasn't comfortable around them. I hardly knew them and I didn't admired their presence. Niti and Pia wasn't anything like Zara. Taking to Zara came easily, she was typically like me. Having next to no knowledge about famous branded clothes, those cosmetic items or makeup products. Their conversation rolled around those topics.

So I kept my mouth shut and concentrate on the beautiful nature surrounding me. The black jeep came to halt infront of the marvellous building, we labelled as our university. I could never digest the glory that building held, or the glamour students in university hold. I always felt odd among them. Those groups filled with laughter and joy. They were so different from me.

They were the definition of perfect. They carried themselves as if they own the university. No self doubts, no insecurities, no social anxiety. Everything that I was gifted with!

"Where are you lost?" A warm voice grabbed my attention, pulling me away from those awnful thoughts.

I shook my head. I couldn't share my thoughts with him as he was one of them. He easily could blend into that crowd. He was always one of them. With each passing day, I was missing my old life. The life where I was comfortable among my group of people. Students in Heaven's High came under the popular category, from rich families but they had children like me. The odd one out!

In JJD it was different. The university was filled with rich people. It was also divided into two groups. Rich spoil brat, rich studious students. Both sector of people was filled with arrogance and pride and I despised staying in their presence. I hated the look they offered me because I didn't came under rich category. The only person I could connect in vast group of strangers was Aditya. He seemed simple, either coming from a middle class family like mine or he had kept himself grounded like Samaira.

"You're lost again," Ehaan commented. I had realised that we were left alone by his friends as silence was filling the jeep. Neither of us walking towards the building. "Is there something troubling you?" He inquired sounding concerned.

Before I could brush his worries away and assure him. A luxurious car speed up and came and rested beside Ehaan's jeep. It was red in colour, I wasn't much into cars so I couldn't label it. But it was expensive and branded one as others surrounding the building glanced at it with curiosity.

Those hazel orbs caught my attention as he opened the driver seat and came out of the car. His orbs were fixed on us a smirk playing on his lips. I averted my gaze, lowering my head.

"Bastard!" I heard Ehaan's groan. I glanced at him to find him glaring at Rudr with hatred. "Annoying Asshole," he kept growling like a lion.

I shook my head as I heard a clicking of heels on the hard flooring and soon the source came into view. Those hazel blue orbs sparkling in excitement, in happiness. A warm smile playing on her dark red lips. I frowned on glancing at her. I wasn't in a mood to withness her drama but her orbs were directed towards Ehaan.

"How are you, Ehaan?" Her melodious voice uttered in concern. "Why were you not receiving my phone calls?"

I frowned at her words. Phone calls? That word was repeated twice in a row. I had ignored it when Varun voiced it out but her mention had grabbed my attention. Why was she calling Ehaan?

Ehaan ignored her presence, his orbs locking on me. I could see hesitation in those orbs, it was scaring me. He was hiding something and I could feel it. "Ruhi, you should get into the building. It's almost time for your lecture." His words crumbled my heart into pieces. The smirk playing on Mia's face was adding fuel in already burning fire.

I offered him a small nod as I couldn't must up the courage to lock my orbs with him. If I did, he would glance at those tears threatening to roll down my cheek. I must up the courage to get out of the jeep without letting anyone to glance at my vulnerable state.

It wasn't that big deal. I was continuously attempting to console my heart. But it did hurt! Rather than asking Mia to walk away, he wanted me to give them privacy. Why he couldn't speak to her before me? It meant, he was hiding something. He had always kept things hidden from me. And those revelation wounded my heart.

"I hadn't expected such a mistake from him." Rudr commented as I realised, he was following me. "He never appreciated things he was gifted with. Neither his talents nor the humans." Rudr shake his head in pure dissatisfaction. I ignored his comment. He was trying to mock Ehaan. To pull out a reaction from me.

I had enough of their ego games. I had more problems to tackle. I was aware of Mia's presence in the university but the gang had never mentioned Rudr or Mia in their conversation from past two years. So, I had concluded that they had grown up and forgotten their rivalry but I was wrong. They still was into the mess.

"Hey, aren't we friends?" Rudr attempted to have a proper conversation with me. "Or had your boyfriend restricted you from talking to me?"

"I don't think we can be friends after the way your beloved friend acted towards me on the party night." I passed him a glare of annoyance. "It would be better if you maintain some distance between us." With those words I got into the cafeteria.

The huge crowd accumulated around made me conscious. I attempted to find any familiar figure in the group of the crowd. I glanced at Anuj, Zara and Varun sitting in the separate corner while Tarun, Niti, Pia had occupied our routine one.

I was in the dilemma, Tarun was waving his hands towards me but I wasn't comfortable accompanying them. I hesitated but was glad on finding a glimpse of Aditya in the corner. He was my escape from the situation!

I walked towards him totally ignoring Tarun. I knew, I was acting rude. But I was avoiding from getting included between their fight. I couldn't choose one among them.

Aditya passed a smile but I frowned on glancing at the person he was talking to. Ved passed me a wide grin, his orbs dancing in amusement. What was Aditya doing with Ved? The conversation of the others flashed in my brain.

"Girl, he seems not someone you should be friends with..."

"When he got aware that he could reach Anuj by you..."

Were they correct about him? Had he approached me on purpose? I shouldn't doubt his intention. I should trust the person I claim as my friend but what was he doing with Ved?

"Won't you introduce your friend?" Ved was staring at me with curiosity.

"Yes," Aditya hesitated before passing a smile in my direction. "She is Ruhi Raichand, my classmate." He muttered before averting his gaze to Ved. "He is Ved..." Before he could complete, Ved muttered on his behalf.

"His cousin," I almost opened my mouth in surprise. Ved and Aditya was connected, indirectly connecting him to Rudr. I shouldn't have doubted Aditya but Ved hadn't behaved nicely with me. He was almost forcing himself on me.

"Nice meeting you, Ruhi." Ved passed a warm smile in my direction. He extended his hands towards me. I hesitated, I wasn't planning to greet him.

"Ruhi!" I heard a familiar voice followed by rushed footsteps. I groaned as I reconginzed the authoritive tone. I could feel his presence behind me, his arms protectively wrapping around my waist. "What are you doing here?" He whispered in my ears, pulling me closer towards his firm shoulder.

"Oh!" Ved exclaimed in wonder. "Ehaan," a smirk playing on his lips. "Stop getting so protective over your friend. She no longer a kid but an adult and can decide for herself. You should stop with your babysitting duty." He paused, his orbs fixing on me for a minute longer. "I don't think she admires it as well."

"That's none of your business!" I heard another groan coming from a corner of the cafeteria. The entire cafeteria had gone silent, those curious orbs fixed on us. They were grabbing attention with their loud action. I lowered my head in embarrassment. Why they couldn't just slide it off! It wasn't like Ved on the verge of kidnapping me.

Ved's orbs were dancing in amusement. His orbs averting at Anuj that had interrupted our conversation. "I had warned you before stay away from my sister." His voice was dangerous, loud and threatening. The loud, violent Anuj. Why was he behaving weird? He wasn't like this! So unbalanced, so violent in nature.

"Your sister walked towards me." Ved pointed out bringing the limelight on me. "He came to us and it was a kind gesture of mine to greet her. Even after the false allegation she had pointed on me."

"It wasn't false allegation!" Zara interrupted. "You were forcing yourself on her." I could see her fuming in exasperation. "That's not a way to behave with a girl!" She pointed out, "can't accept anything less from the person who associate with such individuals." Her orbs directing to the person standing behind us.

Rudr stared at us with a bored expression as if he was done with our drama. Mia's hazel orbs were fuming in rage. "What do you mean, Zara?" Mia was going to take a step forward but Rudr grabbed her by elbow, halting her steps.

Rudr hazel orbs came and rested on Ehaan. "We had a deal, Ehaan." He sounded disappointed. "We are not going to bring our past in the future."

"You was the one that crossed the boundaries. There was boundaries set for us. Not interrupting or connecting with any members of my family." Ehaan pointed out, his hard stare fixed on Rudr.

"I hadn't connected with any of your family members." Rudr attempted to explain his case but Aarav interrupted.

"You have approached Ruhi for a friendship."

"And your friend even attempted to harass her in the party." Varun continued. I was stunned to find the entire gang standing together to support me. A hint of smile reached my face. There was still a slight hope!

I was beaming in happiness but my orbs caught something displeasing. Tarun was staring at the exchange with a scowl decorated on his face. I frowned at my observation. Niti and Pia also seemed disinterested in the events happening before them.

A feeling of uneasiness crossing my spirit. I wasn't adoring them in the gang. Earlier I had concluded it for my lack of social skills as I took days or at times months to get comfortable around people. So, my dislikiness to the new members of the group could be due to it. But something deep within me was screaming there was something else!

"Ruhi doesn't come in the family." Mia pointed out, "she isn't part of your gang. You all know her from only past few years. She can't be one of you." I felt sad at her choice of words.

Deep down I was aware that I wasn't that close to them. I could never match the depth of friendship they held for eachother. They had almost grew-up together. They had being a source of support during those dark phases of their life. I could never match to their loyalty, love and care. Yet I felt bad when Mia voiced it out openly infront of the vast audience. With an only intention to humilate me, to degrade me before them.

"Who is spreading such rumors?" Ehaan mocked as an answer to Mia. I could feel her orbs locked on Ehaan's arms wrapped around me. I wanted to push him off but his grip tighten at my action as I heard him groan in displeasure. "She is one of us, our family." I couldn't miss the admiration in his voice.

"I wasn't aware of the addition in the group." Rudr commented, "I apologise for not keeping myself updated on the information but to just clarify my actions. I hadn't walked to her for any harm but it was a friendly meeting. Just end to our past battle and start of a sweet beginning." Rudr passed his sweet smile in my direction.

"We saw how your friend welcomed her." Commented Tanmay grabbing the attention on him. His orbs stern at his competitor, hard.

"That was a misunderstanding," Ved jumped in the conversation. "I was asking for a dance as I had seen her dancing with you."

"You have commented that you had drugged Pia and you was going to..." Tarun kept it incomplete on glancing Pia's widen orbs. She stared at the crowd in embarrassment.

"He had done nothing like that!" Pia unintentionally was defending Ved. "You might have some misunderstanding," Pia was almost glaring at Tarun.

"Why would Ved do such a stupid thing!" Mia shrugged it off. "Ruhi is innocent, naive. You shouldn't believe in her words. She might have taken friendly flirty in a wrong manner."

I was amazed with her choice of words. I might be innocent but I was mature enough to know his intention. "I don't think it was a friendly flirting," I passed a stare that screamed I was annoyed with her statement.

Mia stared at me with a look of amusement. Her lips forming in a dangerous smile. "Why don't you tell what exactly he did?" Mia was staring at me with curiosity. I wasn't adoring those judgemental orbs fixed on me. Those stares that were questioning my honestly. I clinched towards Ehaan, a silent request to make me invisible to the people surrounding us.

His arms moved forward and pressed me towards his chest. "She doesn't need to provide us with justification. I had seen it with my eyes." His voice was rough, filled with warning. "If you don't want to get killed, stay away from her." He sounded furious, his hands slowly caressing my hairs. Trying to calm down my anxiety.

"You can't roam around scaring people." Rudr interrupted, "we are no longer kids and your warnings can be taken seriously so look before spilling a word out." Rudr narrowed his hazel blue orbs at Ehaan. There wasn't a hint of envy or jealous but pure disappointment.

"It would be better if you advise your beloved friend," Aarav took a step forward. "Teach him manners, how to respect girls." He pointed a finger at Rudr direction, "we hadn't brought it to limelight but won't hesitate if the action is repeated."

"What is left to come in limelight?" Ved groaned in disbelief. "All those stares are pointing fingers at my character."

"You have brought that upon you!" Rudr stared at Ved with disbelief. "You should've known your limits." With those words Rudr walked away followed by Ved. Mia passed a hesitating smile at Ehaan before following them.

Deep silence enveloped the cafeteria. Those orbs fixed on us. "The drama is over," announced Anuj. "You all carry on with your respective plans." That forced them to divert their orbs from us.

Ehaan dragged me towards their routine table while the rest moved to their respective chairs.

"That was a huge drama unfolding out there!" Niti commented as we grabbed our respective chairs. I wasn't in a condition to provide a friendly smile at our company. I opted to ignore their presence.

"I don't understand, what was the need of moving that direction, Ruhi?" Tarun was questioning my actions. "I was waving at you yet you ignored me and walked towards them. Had you forgotten that they were our rivals?"

"She had gone to meet Aditya not them," much to my surprise Aarav came to defend my actions. I could feel his black orbs locked on Ehaan. As if he was concerned about his reaction.

"I just don't understand why you are so adamant of getting him included in our gang?" Pia groaned in horror. "He isn't our types! A total boring individual."

"Just like me," it was a small murmur. "I am sorry, I never thought he won't ever fit in. Like I don't!" I passed a sad smile at Pia. Her orbs widen in confusion. She hadn't thought I would respond in that manner. I would voice such words in my defence. I wasn't asking for sympathy but expressing my feelings. Those thoughts that was troubling me from past few days.

"Who told you that you don't fit in?" Niti was staring at me in concern. "Just a minute back they accepted that you're one of them. You're included in their family. They treat you as family."

"That's out of sympathy," I mumbled. I could feel two hard stare rested upon me. One was fuming in exasperation while the other staring in confusion. I had opted to ignore their presence on the table. I felt overwhelmed. I couldn't take it any longer. I couldn't act, I was fine because I wasn't.

"Out of sympathy?" Aarav inquired, "we do it out of sympathy?" He laughed at those words. "Have you seen us showing sympathy to any individual. We care less, Ruhi."

"I don't fit here," I glanced at Aarav. My orbs brimming with tears. I was feeling helpless. "I never fit in your world. You had always expressed it loud. You had never hidden that fact from me. You was never scared of expressing the truth. I am not one of you and I can never be..." I choked at my words.

"I don't mind if you're not one of us," I heard a loud groan. Ehaan's arms wrapping around my shoulder. "We aren't discussing about it." He was attempting to pull me towards his chest but I jerked his hands away. I could feel eyes on us but my tears weren't in a position to stop.

"I want to discuss about it." I brushed those tears off with my knuckles. "I can't deal with it. I feel inferior among the group of my friends. I feel so unwanted, so out of space. I don't feel like I am part of the group but a piece that doesn't belong to the puzzle." I glanced at Ehaan's fuming dark brown orbs. "I don't belong here." I muttered as I raised myself from the chair. I was going to move but a tight grip on my wrist, halted me.

"Is this about last night?" Ehaan inquired, his voice filled with anger, frustration but the emotions topping the list was sadness. "Is it about the fight that took place during the breakfast? Or is this about the parking lot incident?"

"It's about nothing but everything." I muttered not having the courage to glance at him.

"Are you planning to walk away from me?" His voice was soft delicate, almost broken. He didn't appreciated the thought of it. "Are we drifting apart?" I could sense tension, worry in his voice.

My heart ached at his broken voice. I compelled myself to glance at his miserable orbs. He was staring at me with hope. I grabbed the chair, glancing at him in worry. "I wasn't talking about us." I felt the need to clear him. "This isn't about us."

"Than what is this about?" He inquired, his dark brown orbs softening as his fingers moving to brush those tears off my cheek. "I had promised to be by your side on your new journey. I am aware that I have failed on my part. I wasn't there to welcome you in the university. I wasn't the one who introduced you to our bunch of friends." His orbs lowering in sadness.

"But you never one of those," I completed on his behalf. "I am aware, I had such expectations but that wasn't your fault. You had never been one of those typical boyfriend. I don't have any complaints, I no longer do." I pressed a smile at him. "But you need to understand," I cup his face. Our orbs meeting eachother. "The way you have made your bunch of friends. I should be allowed to make mine. I should be allowed to interact with new people. I am aware, I am not good in socialising but I want to give it a try because I am not feeling comfortable."

"Have we made you uncomfortable?" Suddenly the voice of Niti, grabbed my attention. Reminding me about their presence and numerous orbs fixed on us.

"She doesn't mean that..." Ehaan groaned at the interference. His dark brown orbs starting at me with concern. "I don't trust them." He was almost pleading with me to listen.

"You do trust me, right?" I inquired, he nodded his head almost shaking his head in disbelief.

"I am so furious with myself that I am allowing you with this," he groaned muttering some curses. I grinned at his defeated face. I loved when he gave in. He was turning less stubborn with each passing years. Listening to my request and almost fulfilling my smallest and sillyest request.

"You're going to keep me updated about your activities." He pointed a finger in warning.

"Are you serious, Ehaan?" Aarav interrupted sounding shocked. "You can't listen to her every desire. Anuj is going to be mad about this." Aarav was staring at us with concern. He rarely showed his worries yet I knew, I had made a place in his heart as well.

"Anuj would care less about this," Niti muttered. "He has other matter of interest."

"Nothing is important to him than Ruhi's safety." Aarav commented on Niti's remark. "Why are we doing this?" He almost groaned in disbelief. "Zara is a good company for you, isn't it?" Aarav orbs were fixed on me. "She even started watching those stupid shows to give you company. And now, I have to deal with those storyline narration." Aarav rolled his orbs in frustration as a hint of smile reached his face. I could feel that he was missing them. His orbs slowly moved to the table. He was glancing at Zara with a longing.

"But they aren't here!" I pointed out, trying my luck. "And I am not planning to choose between the two groups that have been formed." Ehaan's orbs enlarged in either shock or amusement. I felt nervous under his intense gaze.

Aarav seemed lost in thoughts, his orbs not moving from them. "We hadn't asked them to move." Pia attempted to defend her actions. "They had decided it for themselves. Haven't you seen how rude Varun behaved with Ehaan?" She pointed out, her orbs staring at me in accusation. "How could you support him?"

"I had also seen how Ehaan brought his miserable past incident in the game." I glared at Pia. I wasn't sure, what she was trying to do but I wasn't in a condition to entertain her false claims. "I am not going to support Ehaan when he does wrong."

I glanced at Ehaan rather than finding him annoyed, he was staring at me in amusement. "I knew, you wouldn't appreciate it."

"But you still did it, twice." I pointed out as he shook his head in disbelief.

"I was annoyed," he attempted to provide justification of his actions.

"That doesn't allow you to hurt others." I was glaring at him in annoyance. "You need to have control on your emotions. It's your responsibility not theirs."

"She is one of a kind," Aarav muttered in the background. "She really has the power to heal broken pieces." His orbs were staring at me in adoration. "I wish, I had met someone like you." With those words he stood from the chair and walked out of the cafeteria.
