The Break

"You're what?" Samaira screamed from the phone. I narrowed my orbs as her reaction was anticipated. I stared myself in the mirror, as I wiped those droplets of water from my face. I walked out of the washroom. "And may I know why on earth you came with this decision?" She sounded annoyed.

"Are you the same Samaira that was urging me that he isn't right for me?" I rolled my orbs. What does the girl even want?

"That was much before I realized his importance in your life." She paused as if she couldn't bring an appropriate word out. "I still believe you deserve better, but I know the value he holds in your life. I can't see you broke..." She kept it incomplete.

"I am not planning to break up but thinking of just allowing some distance between us. I want Ehaan to realize that there is a life beyond me. What if this didn't work in the long run? He needs to concentrate on his career, he needs to focus on things that are important to him at the moment."

"It's Ehaan we are talking about," I could imagine her rolling her orbs. "He does what he thinks is right. He never going to agree on this."

"I know my ways," I commented sounding determined.

"All the best than," she waited for a minute. "How was the party?" She sounded curious. For the first time after her break up with Varun, she sounded curious about anything related to him or his friends.

"Same as those described in novels and shown on television. Much out of my league," I groaned while I heard a giggle from the other hand.

"How much I would have loved to see your annoyed face at the moment. All your expectation wiping off," she commented with her laughter.

"Oh! Come, on!" I acted defensively. "Don't act as if your experience was any better than mine. I didn't even get to have my first dance due to that stupid human."

"You shouldn't call your boyfriend stupid."

"I wasn't calling him stupid but he isn't any less. What was the need to punch him?" I groaned, "he was just asking for a dance."

"That's not asking but forcing and I am fully on Ehaan's side on this. I can forget our difference for a minute." She confessed making me confuse whether I should smile or be sad that he was slowly stealing my best friend from me as well. He was cruel!

I reached the cafeteria and my eyes scanned for the people around the crowded location. They seated at a similar table. "Sammy, I am going to them. I will..." Before I could complete my statement she interrupted.

"I wanted to..." she kept it incomplete. She sounded unsure but that hint was enough for me. She wanted to talk to them.

"Zara wanted to talk to you as well," I muttered; I approached the table with enthusiasm. But my excitement wasn't met with the same level of enthusiasm rather they stared at me with bored expressions.

Zara attempted to fake a smile but it wasn't reaching her eyes. Anuj had bored his orbs in the phone and Aarav had joined him on that mission. Pia stared at me with boredom while Niti's orbs had sternness displaying in it. Tarun masked a smile while Varun greeted me.

"Hi, Ruhi... what took you so long?" Varun inquired attempting to lighten the surrounding with his calm voice. I stared at the vacant seat before me.

"Sammy called and she..."

"Sammy? As in Samaria?" Zara stared at me in surprise. She was stunned, "she is in the call?" Her orbs were staring at me in hope. Samaira had avoided their existence from the minute she had broken up with Varun. As much as Zara understood her yet she missed her.

"She wants to talk," I handed the cell to her. And Zara went busy asking about her new University. I glanced at the table. Varun seemed little upset but he masked it well with a smile.

"We are good," Zara uttered. "But we do miss your presence." She paused for a moment, "Ruhi misses you alot!"

There was silence on the table. Everyone busy with their respective phones. Except one, Tarun. He was observing us with curiosity. As if he was interested in the conversation happening around.

"Thank you, Ruhi." Zara handed me the cell. "It felt great hearing from her after almost a year." I nodded in response.

"Who is this Samaria?" Tarun asked in curiosity.

"None of your business..." Varun groaned in annoyance.

Tarun spared a glance at him while Zara smirked, "why? Tarun deserves to know about our friend."

"Correction! Who was never interested in becoming our friend." Aarav groaned in annoyance.

"It isn't like that!" Anuj attempted to brush the topic off. "She was different from us and she couldn't vibe with us."

"You're wrong, Anuj!" Aarav argued, he glanced at Varun. "She wanted him to leave you all behind. She thought that we were the reason behind his downfall." Aarav paused as he glanced at Varun. "Am I, wrong?"

"I loved her and I always will but these people are those who were with me when the whole world was against me, I can't leave them. Not for anyone in my life." Varun expressed avoiding eyecontact with me.

"Aww... Varun, I can't understand whether I should be proud of you or scold you for your action." Zara rolled her eyes as she pulled a chair, indicating me to have a sit.

"You should be proud of him. At least he chose us over some random girl who came into his life for only a year." Aarav mocked glancing at me.

"It's isn't about a random girl." Anuj hissed in displeasure. "It is about once commitment." Anuj moved his gaze towards Varun. "Did she asked you to leave us?"

Varun waited for a second before responding. "She didn't adored my lifestyle."

"And claimed to love you?" Mocked Aarav.

"Loving someone doesn't mean you should love their bad traits. If you expect someone to change, adopt good habits. There is nothing wrong in it," Anuj commented.

"We don't need your suggestion on the matter," Aarav groaned as he stood from the chair and walked away. Others kept staring at him with a curious stare.

I had followed behind Anuj though Ehaan was going to drop me home and he was waiting for me in his famous black jeep, with those annoyed orbs fixed on me. Yet I forced myself to concentrate on Anuj who was ignoring my presence.

"Are you mad at me?" I asked and that caught his attention, maybe a hint of sadness pierced his heart.

"Why I will be mad at you?" He frowned staring at my face.

"You're ignoring my presence. What does that mean? You didn't greet me, today. Neither came to pick me up." I pouted and a smile spread on his face.

"Damn!" He muttered some curses as he took a step toward me. "How can I be mad at such an adorable face?" He pressed a kiss on my forehead. "I was just mad at Ehaan for behaving as if he only cared about you. As if we never gave a damn about your existence." He groaned as anger was overpowering him.

"I am not denying when it comes to you, he loses his senses but that doesn't allow him to behave in such a manner." He shook his head, "not only me everyone was hurt by his behaviour. Somewhere in his love for you, he had hurt us."

"I..." I hesitated; I lowered my head. "He didn't, he didn't mean to hurt you or anyone. You know, right? What he displays is far different from what he feels from the inside. He isn't like how he showcases that he is..."

Anuj had a sweet smile playing on his lip at my words. "Night changes so fast, right?" He shook his head, that smile still present on his face. "A few years back I was the one to say it to you and now," he chuckled keeping it incomplete. "We came a long way." He cupped my face, "You both came a long way." He paused for a second, a hint of tension was visible in those orbs.

"Promise me, you will make this stay." He sounded scared. "I had seen many relationships breaking in front of me. I can only suggest, and advise people. If they want, they will attempt to give it a chance or they won't." He sounded depressed; I had never heard him so sad.

"What happened? Is it about Zara and Aarav?" I inquired getting concerned. "Are they not..."

"I don't know if I want them to work. I don't want Zara to compromise with a guy who can't stay loyal to her. His past fears are coming in between them. He had to work on himself before working on them." He shook his head, "Take care..." he pressed another kiss on my forehead. "I won't say don't give up but also on the way know your worth. Know that he isn't the end game, if he doesn't know to treat you, you don't need to forgive him. You're way more precious than his traumatic past."

"Why are you saying such words?" I was getting scared. "Why will I ever have to..."

"We are humans, Ruhi." He paused for a second, "we might look all good." His orbs were having a hint of tears. "We are broken from within. We mask it well behind our furious, arrogant, famous spirit. Loving us isn't easy, loving something that is broken isn't easy. It takes lots of effort and after all, you're human as well, you have your flaws. It's not going to be an easy journey. As much as the Opposite Attracts it Repels too as we had seen in the case of Varun and Samaira. I just hope you both don't take an impulsive decision."

I smiled at him in reassurance as he moved towards his bike and soon drove away. I kept staring in his retreating direction with lots of questions troubling my mind.

I moved towards the jeep waiting for me. I had decided something! I had planned it after yesterday event. I was trying to avoid. Not a week into the college life but things had turned messy. I was doubting my decision of going into the same University as his. Maybe Samaria made the best decision by opting to walk out of the city.

I groaned as I glanced at Ehaan's curious stare. His orbs were locked on me as I grabbed a seat on the jeep.

"What is it?" He asked, my heart was beating loudly. I wasn't prepared to have the conversation.

"Nothing of interest..." I shook my head avoiding to glance in his orbs.

"Had he said, something?" Ehaan was turning impatient. He didn't admired, things kept from him. He needed to know! To be aware of everything!

"I had come to a decision," I forced my orbs to glance into those beautiful pair of brown orbs. "I want a break," I hesitated. "A space between us..." His orbs frowned before he realised my words.

"You want to break up?" His orbs widen in surprise but he was expert in hiding the pain behind it.

"We have a future before us." I paused, my heart was beating fast. My orbs brimming with tears. "We need to concentrate on it." I sighed, "until and unless you divert your attention from me, you won't be able to concentrate on your life."

"Who is teaching you this?" Ehaan groaned in annoyance. "Who words are you rolling out?"

"It's my own words," I attempted to sound confident. To not let the emotions have a troll over me. "I have decided it for myself," I glanced at him. "Try to understand, we need to take break."

"You might need the break but I don't!" His voice was firm as if he wasn't desiring to even give it a thought. "I had make the decision and I am not going to back off."

Silence prevailed around us and I allowed it. I wasn't going to force him or start an argument with him. He would need time to swallow the decision. I was sure he wouldn't accept it easily. He stopped the jeep infront of my house. I waited for a moment, glanced at him.

I didn't wanted to do it but I had to! I loved him and I wanted the relationship between us to work so I wanted the space, so we don't end up destroying eachother. With that thought in my mind, I got out of the jeep.

I was sitting in the library, engrossed in the book before me. I had alot of pending notes to complete. Unlike school, college life was different. It wasn't all fun as shown in movies. It was horrible!

I sighed as I glanced at the chapter and notebook that hadn't single sentence noted down. In school, teacher took the responsibility of underlying the details but in college, it was up to us. If we wanted good grades we had to work hard.

"Is there any difficult?" Aditya the person I had made friend with uttered. I stared at him in surprise as he stood beside my table. I shook my head, "I am seeing you from long. You kept groaning..." He was trying to suppress the smile playing on his lips.

I widen my orbs in horror. Was I that loud? I thought I wasn't groaning out loud but in my mind. I felt embarrassed as I couldn't even manage an apology.

"I can be of help," he offered. I was uncertain about the idea. I wasn't good making friends. I wasn't comfortable in unfamiliar surrounding followed by unfamiliar people, I doubted if I could concentrate. But saying no, would be rude so I provided him with a small nod. Praying that I won't mess it up!

"You couldn't blame yourself up," Aditya assured, "understanding economics is a tough job, especially if you're assigned with horrible lecturer for the subject."

I nodded, feeling comfortable in his presence. Maybe it wasn't a bad idea! He explained the theories of individual demand curves and market demand curves. I was surprised on realising the theories I had turned during my last two years in the school was just the beginning. There was more drama to be unfolded!

Arjun orbs were sparkling in excitement as he was explaining the matter. He was enjoying it! Surely, he adored the subject. He glanced at me with a hesitating smile, "I hope, I am not boring you up..." A sheepish smile playing on his face.

"No!" I shook my head, I could feel nervousness in his voice. His body language indicated, he wasn't confident type. Humans who were self conscious like me. I passed him a reassuring smile. It was weird but I got comfortable around people who weren't loud, demanding or controlling in nature.

Total different from the people I was friend with.

"Thank you, for helping with it." I passed a sweet smile. "And..." I paused for a second, "I am sorry for the way my friends behaved with you."

"Oh! It's fine..." Mumbled Aditya, passing a reassuring smile in return.

We got back to our studies, it was getting easy to study with him. We were comfortable in silence, no need of unrelated talks. I needed time to open up so I admired individuals who didn't force me to give a speech on myself.

"I hope you're enjoying the new University." He muttered causally, "I am not good with this stuff!" He shrugged his shoulder in disappointment. "This was one of my dream University, JJD. I had worked hard but..." He shook his head in sadness.

"It's not turning up as you had planned." I completed it on his behalf. "Maybe it's not turning up as we planned for anyone?"

He stared at me with curiosity as if he hadn't expected my respond. "You're different..." He concluded.

"What do you mean?" I was almost offended. Was it in good or bad manner? I couldn't help myself from taking that words personally.

"Means..." He paused for a minute. "You're different from the rest present here." He nodded, "I had attempted alot to connect with others but it felt difficult. They aren't my types! Not people I usually hang out with."

I nodded, I felt as if he was voicing out my feelings. Things I had been feeling from the minute I entered the university. Different!

I didn't had the courage to voice out my feelings so I just nodded to his statement.

I was making my way to the class when I noticed Aarav walking in my direction. I had avoided their existence. And I nearly felt that mostly they were busy in their mess.

Aarav wasn't in a pleasing condition. His eyes were swollen as if he had a fight. I wasn't sure if he noticed my presence or not but he ignored me. I shook my head as I walked into the class.

The professor had started the class but students weren't interested in the topic she was addressing.

"Do you heard what happened?"

"What?"

"There was a fight!"

I wanted to close my ears to their gossip. I wasn't interested in the college drama. I was never interested in those stupid-gossips.

"Aarav and Anuj ended into a fight!"

And suddenly, I was all interested in the fight. They could be someone else! But my anxious heart couldn't rest after it. I wasn't able to concentrate on the professor.

"It was about a girl!"

The conversation kept moving in the background. Least bothered that professor could hear them.

"Which girl?"

"Those girls added in their group. Their new friends! There was some trouble between them. I even heard that Anuj almost broke Aarav's orbs."

"Even the rumors are that Zara was found crying in the washroom. One of the senior saw her."

"Maybe Aarav cheated her with that girl. Aarav is known to be a Playboy."

"Zara shouldn't have expected more from him."

They were commenting so causally on their life. Who were they to judge my friends? I stopped the inner urge to shut them up. I was just waiting for the lectures to end. As the professor was done with the lecture, I messaged Varun.

I couldn't ask about the matter to Anuj. Zara wasn't in a condition to answer. Ehaan and I had our own matter to solve. So, I was left with Varun as the option.

'Where are you?'

'And what's the matter'

'There are rumors spreading around...'

I waited and waited but I wasn't gifted with any response. I made my way towards the cafeteria. I had avoided that place from past few days. I wanted to maintain some distance from them because I felt as if I was forcing myself in that group.

Weird! I felt weird among them. The way I had felt in the bunch of my cousins, people who were of my age yet different. I had always felt the difference but getting into college had changed everything and I was taking time to understand the matter. I loved them, they were my friends yet I felt left out among them.

But the care I had for them. The concern was pulling me into the cafeteria.

"Hey, look at her!"

"She is the one, right?"

"The new one in the group."

"Could this fight be due to her?"

"We had seen Anuj punching Rudr in cafeteria few days back. It surely her fault!"

I was trying to act strong among those rumors spreading around. They were so loud. They were acting as if I couldn't hear them. As if they didn't mind if I did hear them.

As I glanced at the table. There was no clue of them. Only Tarun, Pia and Niti. Pia orbs were swollen, she was wiping the emerging tears with the tissues as Niti was consoling her. I stared at them in confusion. I had some hard feelings towards Pia yet I didn't adored her crying figure.

Tarun passed me a welcoming smile, "Hey!" He offered an excited greeting yet I was aware that he was faking it. "After long days. Where was you? Had you forgotten about our existence or got bored of us?" He inquired, sounding curious.

"I was busy with studies." He nodded at my answer not interrogating further. Silence enveloped us, Pia sobs breaking the silence in frequent intervals. My orbs kept darting in her direction. I wanted to know reason behind her tears yet I wasn't sure if she was comfortable sharing it with a almost a stranger. We were just mutual friends having next to no idea about eachother.

"You might have heard about the rumors." Tarun initiated the conversation. "Our university is fast in spreading it around the campus."

"So, they really fought?" I was staring at Tarun with horror. They had never fought with eachother. They had their disagreements, arguments but never a proper fights. I hadn't heard about it from past few years.

Tarun offered a small smile as if an answer to my question. "Is it about me?" I hesitated as I stared at him with anxiety. I was scared of the answer. My question did grab everyone's attention, they stared at me for a minute.

"It wasn't about you but me," Pia answered for me. Her hazel orbs softening on glancing at me. "You don't need to blame yourself for the mess you're witnessing," she assured as if she could understand me.

"They are having some misunderstanding," Niti continued on Pia's behalf. "They mistook it, Pia." Niti was attempting to assure her.

"I don't know what to think about it." New tears emerged from her orbs. "They could've expressed their doubts, voice it out rather than claiming they are correct. Those orbs, those words screamed that they believed it, Niti."

I was confused, what were they talking about?

"I just want to hear Ehaan's take on it." Pia mumbled, "and if he have the same concept about me." She paused for a moment, "I am done with them." With that as a final statement, she rushed from the cafeteria.

"I hadn't expected this from Anuj," Niti mumbled following Pia.

I stared at their retreating figure with lots of question. Tarun grabbed my attention with his teasing smile. "You look adorable when you're confused," he laughed at his own joke.

I passed him a glare, "maybe that's the reason people keep me in dark."

"Who does that?" Tarun inquired in curiosity. "I am not one of them." He processed, "Anuj and Aarav had a fight which was due to a misunderstanding according to Aarav and Pia."

I frowned at his choice of words. "What do you mean?" I couldn't understand him.

"An intimate picture of Aarav and Pia are sent to Zara." My mouth widen in horror as I stared at Tarun in disbelief. How could he voice such a statement, so causally?

"Pictures?" Tarun nodded at my question.

"Something brought the conversation which resulted in both of them ending into a fight." I nodded as I consumed the information.

"I... Where are all of them?" I inquired in tension.

Tarun shrugged his shoulder, "Aarav and Anuj had ran away in anger. Varun went in search of Zara. Those pictures had hurt Zara." He muttered, lost in thoughts. "Hadn't thought it would end in such a manner..." He shook his head in disappointment.

"Why do you sound as if it's the end? It's the misconception, right?" I inquired in worry, tension. I so wish everything to sort out.

"Things are complicated!" Tarun shook his head, "we know nature of Aarav."

"But that doesn't mean he will cheat on her."

"He won't do it intentionally but..." Tarun kept it incomplete. "There is also a hit of moment," he expressed.

"Pia confessed it?"

"None of them did," Tarun answered. "Niti firmly believes in Pia's narration of it being a misunderstanding. And maybe she is right, I am just voicing my views on the topic." Tarun nodded much to himself. "And if my views are truth, it's going to be hard for Zara. And the rest won't forgive Aarav."

I kept quiet listening to his statement. I waited the entire day for a message from any of them. I was gifted with a response from Varun at the end of the day. He informed that matters were under control nothing of worry.

I felt an urge to drop a message to Anuj. I wanted to listen from him that he was fine. He never lost his temper. Fighting with Aarav was a big thing! He might be as upset and heartbroken from the incident as Zara.

I dialled his number, he picked it on my second try.

"Go to sleep, Ru..." He uttered in exhaustion. "Rest your mind, I am fine."

"You don't sound like you're." I mumbled, attempting to hide my worry. "How are you?"

"I am fine," Anuj attempted to convince me. "Don't need to stress your small mind and go to sleep. Tomorrow you have college to attend."

"You will come to pick me up?" I inquired in hope. I needed to see him. To convince my heart he was dealing with it, right.

"Tomorrow?" He sounded confused, "maybe Ehaan's is going to take on his job. He is coming tomorrow. Did you forget?" He inquired sounding surprised.

"I want you to come and I hope you will listen to my request," I almost pleaded with him. I wasn't in a mood to handle Ehaan's presence. I was trying hard to ignore the inner urge of calling him. I had decided to take a break and I wanted to stand firm on my decision.

"As you wish my innocent princess," Anuj muttered at the end while I giggled.
