I escaped to the library as it was draining my energy, seeing them enjoying their time while I felt left out. I also wanted to avoid the question about the upcoming party. I felt as if I belonged to a different world than them.
"Hi!" someone greeted me, bringing me back from my train of thought. She seemed much of my height, having a cute smile. "Can I take this seat?" She inquired, pointing at the vacant chair before me. I nodded; she gave a hesitating smile as she put the book on the table.
I carried on with my reading when I saw a notification popping on my screen. It was a message from Anuj. I ignored not wanting to glance at it and spoil my mood. I wanted to spend my time in my fantasy world.
I rubbed my orbs as I closed the book. "You read mystery novels?" The person sitting before me was staring at the cover of my book.
I smiled, "Yes."
"I rarely come across people who are into mystery. The rest of our age people are mostly in romance novels." I smiled nodding to her remark.
"But I love both but if I have to choose, I will choose Agatha Christie over any romance genre."
"Oh! My!" she put a palm on her mouth to suppress her escaping scream. "I am a huge fan of her novel. I love her books."
"Me too," I muttered as I glanced at my phone which was buzzing with notifications as I had silenced it.
Unlike Heaven's High where the library was rarely occupied, JJD had a different scenario. Every table was occupied, and students' eyes were buried in the books. The university was known for high-scored students.
I slowly took the phone as I noticed my companion's eyes fixed on my cell. I came across fifteen missed calls from Ehaan and five from Anuj. What on the earth? They acted as if I was a five-year kid who was in constant need of guidance. I could manage myself alone.
I took the book in my hand as I passed a smile at my companion and walked out of the library. My stomach was growling in hunger and I needed to fill it before its loud shout could get in other's ears.
As I entered the cafeteria, I glanced at the crowded location. The break hour was over yet people hadn't moved to their classes. I had another hour left before the next lecture so I had slipped to the library. I wanted a moment of peace away from the nagging feeling of leaving everything behind.
"Ruhi!" I heard a familiar voice, my orbs turned in that direction. Zara waved her hands, signaling me to walk toward them. I sighed; I had anticipated that they might have left for football practice. A football tournament was near and they were busy with it.
I forced my legs towards them masking a fake smile. Everyone was present except the two people I wasn't prepared to see at the moment.
"What do you get troubling my friends?" Aarav groaned, he shook his head as he typed something on the phone maybe informing them about me.
"Aarav!" Zara protested, gesturing for me to have a seat.
I smiled glancing at the rest present on the table. They were passing me a smile as well. I felt uncomfortable around them. They were strangers and it took me days to get comfortable. I couldn't behave the real me in front of them.
"Where had you gone?" Tarun inquired as I stood before my chair. Still, deciding whether to come up with an excuse or give in? "Anuj was getting stressed. I had never seen him so anxious."
"Even Ehaan," Niti pointed out. "He usually has an "I don't give a damn" attitude but he was continuously trying to contact you." Niti smiled, I lowered my gaze in embarrassment.
"That was just a trailer." Zara muttered, "She can make those guys crazy with her small-little stunts." Zara giggled pressing a kiss on my cheeks as she side-hugged me. "But on a serious note, where were you? And why are you not taking the seat?"
"Actually," I hesitated. I didn't want to hurt them but I couldn't allow those feelings to troll over me. "I was planning to go to the library. I came here just to eat something." Zara seemed displeased. "If you all don't mind?"
"Oh! It's fine," Varun smiled. "Carry on with your plans."
"Yep," Zara was disappointed but she faked a smile while Aarav stare at me with suspiciousness.
I nodded and walked towards the counter. I could feel gazes on me due to the popular gang I was friends with. Within these years with them, I had gotten used to the unwanted attention but it always made me uncomfortable and conscious. I felt as if always someone was watching me and I needed to act with caution.
"Hey, Ruhi!" Rudr's voice boomed in the cafeteria, giving me flashes of my past incidents. He had pronounced the name in the same triggering manner. Giving more emphasis to Ru... and then hi.
I glanced at the table in the far corner, as anticipated their orbs were fixed on us. I thanked God that Anuj and Ehaan were not present. I passed a smile at him, looking straight ahead of me.
I heard his approaching footsteps but I chose to ignore him. "Come on! And here I thought we had moved on from the past." He muttered as he stood beside me.
"It's not like that," I attempted to justify myself. "Don't take me wrong but I can't act as if we are friends." I got a glimpse of his hazel blue orbs darkening in response and for a nano-second his mask was unfolded but he covered it back with a smile.
"Is it because of the number of furious orbs planted on you?" He smirked as his orbs averted toward their direction. "Why they don't treat you like an adult? You're capable of making your own decision."
"They aren't the reason behind it," I growled feeling offended by him insulting my friends. "I don't want to have any contact with you. I can forgive you and yet choose nothing to do with you."
"Fine," he sighed. "At least I can offer you a coffee?"
"No! You can't!" I heard a roar and the entire cafeteria went silent. I turned to face a fuming lion. His brown orbs were burning in rage. I took a step towards him as I saw him clenching his fist in anger. "I had warned you to stay..." He took a threatening step towards us, more prescribed, towards Rudr.
"Ehaan," I stood on his path. His orbs met mine, his orbs soften for a second before he glared at me.
"Move..." he gritted his teeth in frustration.
"I won't!" I stood on my ground; I heard some gasps escaping from the audience but I cared less about it at the moment. "You need to calm down." I pleaded with him through my eyes.
"I can't calm down when you fucking go missing and then I find you with this moron." He growled making me flinch he was on the verge of taking a step towards Rudr but I held his wrist.
"Please..." I pleaded, his orbs were fixed on Rudr. "Everyone is staring at us," it came as a small whisper I doubted if he heard it but he did. I heard him cursing something as he pulled me towards him. I stare at him but his orbs were still fixed on Rudr. "Ehaan," I could tell that he was dying to punch him. I reached to touch his face, I felt so at peace with his arms wrapped around me in a protective manner.
"Look at me," I whispered on seeing him opposing my action of cupping his face. His frowning face stared at me and I passed a smile at him. "No," I mouthed out as he sighed in defeat.
But at that minute I heard a groan escaping and some cheers. I moved my orbs to find Anuj standing an inch away from Rudr, while Rudr was massaging his nose with his orbs staring at Anuj in rage.
"Don't mess up, Rudr," Anuj warned him. "I won't spare you, not this time."
"Anuj!" I whined, I wanted to not make a scene in front of the audience. I heard a chuckle escaping from the person next to me. As much as I wanted to enjoy that melodious sound yet I was mad that he was laughing at me. I attempted to get out of his grip but he tightened it more.
Anuj walked towards us, "where on the earth were you?"
"Library," I muttered.
"She was ignoring us as she had found new friends." Ehaan mocked while I passed him, 'You better shut up' Look.
"I am not going to tolerate such behavior, Ruhi. Get that in your mind." He warned while I gave a small nod. I had never seen Anuj so furious and him using such a harsh tone on me and due to which my orbs were brimming with tears.
"I didn't mean to," I lowered my head in an attempt to hide my tears from them.
"Hey," Anuj cupped my face. Softness returned back to his spirit. "I wasn't scolding you. I... I..." he shook his head as he stared at Ehaan with annoyance. "Can't I even hug my sister, now?"
Ehaan didn't respond but his grip on my shoulder loosens and soon Anuj wrapped his arms around my shoulder. "I lost my calm, but he deserved that punch." He muttered as he pressed a kiss on my hair.
"Don't sound like Ehaan," I grumbled not liking the idea of tolerating another Ehaan in my life.
"Am I sounding that awful?" I giggled at Anuj's comeback.
"You both don't forget that I have ears." And at Ehaan's comment, both of us burst out laughing.
"What was that?" Niti sounded excited as we approached the table.
"What did he do this time?" Aarav inquired, staring at both boys beside me.
"What he does always," Anuj muttered, sounding not interested in the discussion and Aarav got the clue and stop the interrogation.
"The most amazing part of the incident was Ehaan calming down while Anuj provided Rudr a punch. You should have stared at Rudr's stunned expression. I would give anything to see it on repeat." Niti laughed at her own words making me smile at her cheerful, bubbly nature.
"We know you're jealous, Niti. Your beautiful eyes couldn't bare that it was Ruhi not you, he was acting damn possessive for her." Tarun spoke, "Don't need to cover it up."
"Oh! Please, not again." Niti groaned at Tarun's comment. "I have a better choice than him."
"Would you like to comment anything on the matter?" Varun inquired having a mischievous look, staring at Anuj. What was I missing? Was there something blooming between them? If that was the case, why was I kept hidden?
"How about you just shut the fuck up?" Anuj growled and the rest laughed their heart out seeing him frustrated.
"What's wrong with you, man?" Aarav sounded taken aback. "Have you shifted your personality?" He stared between Ehaan and Anuj.
"I know, man. I expected at least a punch from Ehaan the way he entered. Like a perfect hero entry on his way to rescue his heroine." Tarun muttered, passing a wink at me. I enlarged my orbs in horror as I lowered my gaze in embarrassment.
"She isn't his heroine. They treat her like a child." Pia muttered as all orbs glanced at her for a minute.
Zara faked a cough, "But I know why he didn't punch Rudr. He can't ever deny his angel's request." I couldn't help the blush covering my face.
"Oh! My! Am I missing something!" Niti literally yelled as she jumped from her chair in excitement, her curious-excited orbs were moving from me to Ehaan for answers which were making me nervous.
"Stop with it!" Ehaan groaned as he pushed the plate of food toward me seeing that I hadn't touched it yet. "And you eat, I don't want to hear the news of you fainting in the class."
"Oh! My! God!" Niti's loud yell startled me while others giggled at her dramatic self. "He-the rude man turning soft for his sweet girl?" She had a sweet blush playing on her face. "Finally! My dream of seeing a bad boy falling for a good girl coming true." She paused for a second on glancing at Ehaan, he was glaring at her. "Sorry, you people continue."
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have got another Aarav in the group," Anuj commented making others laugh while Aarav growled in opposition.
"I never spoil the moment," Aarav grumbled in response.
"Eat," I felt Ehaan's warm breath on my earlobe as he whispered those words.
I stared at the plate; the burger was waiting for me but I wasn't in a mood. "I didn't ask you to stare at the plate." He growled, "Eat the damn thing."
"I won't!" I whispered glancing at him who was mere inches away from my face. "If I eat it, you will again ignore my existence. I would rather hear your annoyed voice than no sound at all."
His orbs soften, and his hand reached to cup my face. "Hadn't you asked me for space?" He stared at me with such longing that I just wanted to hug him tight. I nodded having no words to respond back. "I was just providing you the thing you needed."
"But I miss you," I pouted. "I don't prefer your silence. At that moment I was angry and I blabbered out things. I thought that asking for space was the correct thing. We always end up in such a fight. What if one day the fight will be so cruel that we won't be able to find our path back to each other?" I was expressing my insecurities.
"Just because some didn't work out doesn't mean we won't." He was indicating Samaira and Varun. He was aware that their breakup had affected me as well. There were moments when Samaira used to completely avoid the existence of Varun and rest. In those days, I had to choose among them. It was the tough job ever.
"I miss her," I whispered as a drop of tear descended.
"I know," he muttered as he leaned his face and pressed a kiss on my forehead.
"As much as I will like it to carry on but we have a football practice to attend." Aarav's words made me realize that we weren't alone. I heard Ehaan groan as his hands reached to my waist pressing me to his chest. Aware that my conscious self would pull away from him.
"Ugh! Aarav!" Zara groaned in annoyance.
"You always do that, man!" Varun laughed at the end.
"And then he goes on that he doesn't spoil a moment." Anuj showered his disappointment as well. "My doubt is confirmed, it's his jealous ass that budges in. He can't see his beloved friend with someone else." Everyone ended up laughing.
"Ehaan! leave! they are staring," I mumbled as I slowly raised my head to stare at him.
"They aren't," he was staring at them a smile playing on his lips that was missing from so many days. "They are too busy to stare at us," he whispered as his orbs found mine. "You have no idea how much I had waited for this moment," he smiled. That heart-warming- dimple displaying- smile. My heart skipped a beat at that moment. "Only if we weren't in public, I would have kissed you."
The blush found its way again to my face. "I missed you."
"I know..." he muttered pressing another kiss on my forehead.
"People say, I miss you too as a response." I groaned at his lack of communication skills or more of an arrogant idiot.
"But you love truth, right? So, I had decided that I no longer will lie to you."
"Ehaan," I whined pulling myself from his grip.
"What?" He made that one of his innocent faces while I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Is it Ehaan, smiling like a teenager-madly and deeply- in love?" Niti inquired and I couldn't help the giggle popping out of me.
"Anuj, can you tell your girlfriend to shut the fuck up. I had enough of her, already."
"Finally! Our Ehaan is back," Tarun commented making the rest chuckle. "But on a serious note, you two become completely different personalities when you both are together. Ehaan smiles more often while Ruhi speaks more." He paused staring at Pia, "Isn't it?"
And for the first time, I glanced in her direction. Her face was stern as she stared at the rest of us. "I don't want to spoil your beautiful moment but hadn't you commented once you're not into dating? And you kept us hidden from the fact that you had a girlfriend?" She sounded offended.
"Pia, it isn't like that..."
"Then what it is, Ehaan?" She raised her voice as if she had lost her calm. Her orbs moved towards me for a second. "I thought you were better than those guys. You had clearly disappointed me." She stood from the chair and walked off.
"Pia!" Ehaan was on the verge of following her but Niti halted him.
"Don't worry about her, she will be fine."
"She is getting me wrong; I need to clear it up." I was taken aback by Ehaan's those words; he never cleared it up when it was about us. He wasn't a guy who justified his actions. I felt something within me was displeased with the friendship Ehaan and Pia shared.
