I stared at the occupied classroom with horror as Anuj passed a reassuring smile. "Trust me, you will survive this. If you had tolerated Heaven's High for the past twelve years, you can tolerate JJD." He was trying to build confidence in me, but upon mention of Heaven's High, I felt nostalgic. I missed my old classmates, though I wasn't fond of them. At least they were not strangers.
I took a deep breath and passed a smile at Anuj as I walked in. I had grabbed the attention of the students because a senior was dropping me to the my class.
A guy at the back passed me a smile. I was forcing my head hard to recollect the person. Who was he? I took the vacant seat before him. A minute later, he tapped on my shoulder, making me regret my decision to sit before him.
"Hi!" He called out in excitement as I turned to face him. "You're from Heaven's High?" His enthusiastic loud voice was forcing more eyes on me. I gave a nervous nod, "are you friends with Anuj Saxena?"
"Yes," I nodded seeing his interest increasing in me.
"I am from Thomas. I had heard a lot about them." He continued, "I am aware that they are studying over here."
I simply provided him with a nod, what else was I expected to do? His disappointed face convinced me that I wasn't acting friendly. "Will you introduce me to him?" I provided him with a smile to cover up for my reserved nature.
"Sure," I muttered turning to face the board and silently praying for the lecture to start so I no longer had to deal with small talk.
We were informed about the campus's history, geography, and everything in between. Half of the things my brain could register while the other half had driven deep into the dream world. A girl had come and sat next to me. I had attempted to start a conversation with her, but she was lost in her world. I groaned; won't I be able to make a single friend on the first day?
I missed Samaira and the way we had connected on our first day at school. The way we had smiled at each other when the teacher had made us partners. I sighed attempting to concentrate on the present. I knew everything was new, but soon, I was going to get used to it, and maybe when the time would come to leave this place,e, I would be as displeased as I was leaving Heaven's High behind.
The bell ringing was an indicator that we were free from the dreadful lecture, I was already missing home, and not even an hour had passed by. I yawned as I stood from the chair.
"Are you going to the cafeteria?" The same excited guy stood before me.
I nodded. "We didn't introduce ourselves. I am Aditya Rao," he extended his hand for a handshake. Was everyone over here so over-friendly? How was I going to survive? All I wanted was to be invisible to the audience's eyes. I had grabbed enough attention in school, I needed some peace.
"Hi, I am Ruhi... Ruhi Raichand." I shook my hand with him.
"Friends?" His brows raised in a questioning manner. I could feel his nervousness through his smile.
I wanted to deny it. I hardly knew him, and my concept of a friend was far broader than the world's view. They would label acquaintances, classmates, and roommates as friends, but for me to consider a friend, I needed to be comfortable with that person. I needed a person who wouldn't judge me for my weirdness.
"Yeah, sure..." but as growing up I understood the world around me was different in their view.
He grinned causing me to smile at him. We walked out of the class, making our way to the cafeteria. I messaged Anuj asking if he was in the cafeteria. I was so lost in thought that I banged with something hard.
I groaned rubbing my forehead as I raised my head. "I am sorry," I apologized, accepting my fault. My orbs widen glancing at the person standing before me. He had changed from a grey jersey to a black jacket, I rolled my eyes at his dressing style.
"Where is your attention?" He was glaring at me. Due to our height difference, I had to raise my head.
"Really, sorry." Aditya came in front for my support. "She didn't mean to..." As he explained on my behalf, Ehaan frowned, his orbs questioning me.
"Who on the earth is he?" He gritted his teeth in frustration.
"Don't use that tone on me," I pointed a finger at him in annoyance. I had enough of his tantrums.
"And what should I do?" He mocked, I glared at him. "Thank you for ignoring me for the past few days. I am not going to tolerate your mood swings..." he brushed it off before walking away. I pouted staring at his retreating figure. Why he couldn't console me as Aarav did to Zara? Why it was always me who had to walk back to him? Why was he so arrogant? I stamped my foot in annoyance as I moved toward the direction of the cafeteria.
"Do you know him?" Aditya seemed stunned by the revelation.
"We studied in the same school," I muttered not wanting to disclose much of my life.
"Oh! I don't take you for a girl who was popular in your school." He muttered making me offended by his views. Was it that visible? My shy nature? I passed him a smile; I just wanted to walk away and be provided with some peace. Was that too much to ask? This new surrounding was taking a troll over me and Ehaan being mad at me was further troubling my mental state. Why he couldn't behave like a typical boyfriend?
"Hi!" Anuj's familiar voice made me sign as I rushed towards him without giving a damn that he was surrounded by a huge crowd. "Aww..." he wrapped his arms around me as he pecked a kiss on my forehead.
"I want to go home," I whispered in his chest.
"What happened?" He sounded concerned as he pulled away from me. His orbs stared at me with so much admiration. "Just tell the name of the person responsible for your tears." He muttered before slowly wiping those tears off me.
"Ehaan..." I pouted making him chuckle.
"Sorry that department is yours," he cupped my cheek, pressing a kiss on my forehead.
"Is this the reason why you denied dating me?" Came a grumbling voice making me pull myself from Anuj.
I felt conscious upon realizing that various orbs were planted on me. They were staring at us in curiosity. "Hold your horses!" A familiar voice interrupted pausing to laugh at their misconception. "Don't blame Ruhi for Anuj's lack of interest in the relationship," Zara muttered as she walked towards me and wrapped her arms around my shoulder. "How was your first day?" She inquired, sounding curious; I pouted at her in response.
As I was younger compared to them, they nearly treated me like a kid and I had no complaints attached. "I already want to go home," I complained.
"Don't tell me that intro session had bored you to hell!" Aarav commented, making me smile at him in agreement.
"Is anyone going to convey to us, who is she?" The same girl who was teasing Anuj inquired, sounding impatient.
"She is Ruhi," The guy I encountered before in the parking lot, answered her confusion. "Seems like a very close friend of theirs," there was uncertainty hidden in the corner.
"She is a family," Varun cleared it to them while passing a smile at me. I could glimpse at the pain hidden behind those orbs; he was masking it well with his smile. If things were good between him and Samaira, she would have accompanied me to this college, but things had turned wrong. I kept urging Samaira constantly to initiate a move, but maybe she had decided for herself, and that was the reason I didn't want to hold her behind.
"Where is Ehaan?" A very enthusiastic spirit spoke among us, her orbs were scanning the cafeteria. I knew her! I frowned; I never appreciated her figure around me. She was the most popular girl in the college. She resembled Mia in various ways. Only the problem was everyone adored her presence except me, which was the most annoying part of her existence.
"Ehaan!" At that minute, I realized I had company with me as I heard his voice grabbing the attention of the rest. "We caught a glimpse of him in the hallway. Maybe he was making his way to GYM." He shrugged his shoulder gesturing that he was uncertain about Ehaan's location.
"You?" Aarav sounded offended by a stranger interrupting their conversation.
"My friend..." I had to save him from humiliation as I was aware of their cruelty towards strangers.
"Friend?" Though Anuj muttered those words all four of them were staring at the new specimen with uttermost interest.
